That‟s one way to see how fast food industry chain has been dramatically change the world we live in. As Ritzer wrote, the globalization itself, in a way is a mere McDonaldization, a creation of homogenic world where speed and cost of production leads the way. Today, fast food has been a global hegemony, notably on food culture, with implications stretches in economic, social, cultural, even political field of food and agriculture. Meanwhile, on the other side resistances emerged. Criticisms, protests, and even violent attacks tried to hold backs the bad influences of fast food to their lands and peoples. Among them, are Slow Food, which seeks not only to be a resistance movement, but to challenges the hegemony itself , with ways that could be perceived as characteristics of a counterhegemony movement. This thesis aims to identify Slow Food as an example of counter-hegemony, by observing the presence of counter-hegemony characteristics on its movement, using Gramsci‟s views on hegemony and counter-hegemony in his Prison Notebooks.
