Pola Rekrutmen Santri Waria di Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis Kota Gede Yogyakarta

Abstract The research was intended to identify santri (student) recruitment pattern done by Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis that only receive waria santri in Celenan, Kotagede, Yogyakarta. This study tried to answer recruitment method and strategy done by Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis. This research used social network theory related to recruitment process to take waria santri spreading in all Indonesia regions. Social network theory was used to answer research problem. In addition, this study used qualitative method with case study approach. Data was collected using indepth interview with head of Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis, public relation of Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis, new santri and old santri and direct observation. Secondary data consist of previous study discussing recruitment process and documents related to process of santri recruitment done by Pondok Pesantren Senin- Kamis. The result indicated that there are three recruitment pattern: direct socialization by santri of Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis, recruitment pattern through NGO and community, and recruitment trough social media. Of the three patterns, recruitment through LSM and community is the most effective pattern because there is the greatest waria organization in Yogyakarta named IWAYO (Ikatan Waria Yogyakarta) from this organization, Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis got many santris domicile in Yogyakarta. For santri outside Yogyakarta, Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis does recruitment through social media such as facebook, e-mail, and whatsapp. In addition the research indicates that Pondok Pesantren Senin-Kamis still faces obstacles in doing recruitment. There are different characteristics of each santri according to recruitment classification. The three recruitment patterns result in various characters of santri according to its recruitment. One of its examples is that santri admitting through direct socialization is assessed less discipline because they cannot be separated from previous jobs and santri admitting through NGO network or community has good learning seriousness. In addition, they have advantage to adapt to environment because they are accustomed to with socialization way in organization or community they follow. Santri entering the pondok pesantren through social media has usually income and eligible for job and social life. Moreover, they are more possible to play their cell phone, because they should link to their family outside Yogyakarta.
