ABSTRACT This study examines the response of the local government of Sleman district in the food security issues. The local government response in terms of policies, programs, and activities of them on the issue of food security, especially in response to problems of food availability, fooddistribution, and food consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the Sleman district government policies in response to the problems of food security in Sleman regency, and to know the accuracy of the response if it’s appropriate to achieve the concept of food security. This study used a qualitative approach to the type of case studies. This research is focused on the empirical legal research in a through and systematic and supported by literature study and secondary data. Methods of data colletion using the interview techniques, field observations and literature studies. The result of this study indicate that the Sleman district government hasn’t responded well to food security problems in terms of the lack of response of local governments to increase food availability, food distribution development, improving the quality of food consumption, food security and institutional development.
