ABSTRACT The use of new media in the organization has changed many things in organizational communication. One of them is the media employees use. Each individuals must have a fundamental desire or motive in using the media, as well as employees in the use of organization’s communication media. Intranet as a new media gives employees the freedom to be active and capability to determine for themselves what to do in the Intranet. The purpose of this study was to determine employees’ motives and satisfaction in using Media GOSIP as communication media in PT Pertamina (Persero) RU IV Cilacap. Media GOSIP is a virtual forum as a form of communication media used by the employees in the Intranet network. This study uses the Theory of Uses and Gratification in which audience use media to fulfill their motive and needs. This research is a descriptive study that use survey method. Respondents of this study were 94 permanent employees at PT Pertamina (Persero) RU IV Cilacap. The analysis technique used are descriptive analysis and mean analysis. The results showed that in general, Media GOSIP as new media capable of satisfying the employees’ motives of Entertainment, Career, Habit, Escape, and Self Expressions. However, those five categories were not the employees’ highest motives. The employees’ highest motive was Information Seeking.
