ABSTRACT Since 9/11, the image of religions in the global politics and security has shifted significantly. With the global war on terror, or extremists kidnapping, and assassinating people in the name of religion, it is understandable then why religion has mostly been neglected in the academic discussion of peacebuilding and conflict-resolution. Discussions about religion in the academic realm of conflict and peacebuilding have mostly circulated merely around the conflict part. However stopping at such point would be inaccurate, when in various parts of the globe there are documentations of religious contribution to peacebuilding. Hence, this research aims to examine that other side of religion which is often forgotten: religious peacebuilding. By taking Maluku as study case, this research aims to examine religious resources of reconciliation and peacebuilding during the inter-religious conflict which started in 1999. More specifically, this research has picked three religious initiatives which are 1) The participating religious leaders in Malino II Agreement, 2) Team 20 Wayame, and 3) Maluku Interfaith Institute (LAIM). By using in-depth interview, field observation, and library work to examine the research questions, this research shows that religious actors in Malino II have stood as a catalyst for conflict-resolution between Christians and Moslems in Maluku, as well as that religious actors and their resources have contributed a significant impact towards the peacebuilding process through Team 20 Wayame and LAIM. Throughout Malino II, religious code-of-conduct was the most impactful religious aspect. In Wayame, it was religious communality. While in LAIM religious creed was the most vital aspect. Beyond that, religious resources and strategies which were used by Malukan Christians and Moslems religious leaders become the central discussion and thorough elaboration in this paper.
