Penguasaan Rusia Atas Sumber Daya Alam sebagai Sumber National Power Utama

ABSTRACT Galuh Ajinugraha. Russia’s Control Over Natural Resources as The Primary Source of National Power. Supervised by Moehtar Mas’oed. The world of 21st century is a world that requires more sustenance than before. The world refers to the boundary of humanity, as the population grows and the usage of technology and machinery increases, the energy required for the world to function also rises exponentially. Both Humans and their tools consume energy source, food for humans and fuel for their tools. Fuels are especially indispensable for the growth of modern world. Thus the world is in dire needs for those sustenance and then some countries commit themselves to fulfill those needs while gaining maximum profits. Those countries are known as energy exporting countries, some of them are Middle East countries which most them are part of OPEC, and several other countries which have large reserves of Natural Resources. One of them is Russia, which is the topic of this paper. This paper was initally made in order to resolve the following cases : 1.) The condition of Russia’s Natural Resources and Geopolitical Situation ; 2.) Analyzing the role of Natural Resources in Russia’s transitions and diplomatic relations ; 3.) Investigating the next strategy of Russia with the newfound geopolitical power and potential and whether Russia be able to match or surpass the National Power of it’s predecessor, also to evaluate the challenges that have or may surfaced to deter Russia in relation to the control over Natural Resources. This paper was created with knowledge and information obtained from published books, article, and journal. Several results were produced from the research, which the essences are the following : 1.) The loss of most Natural Resources from the dissolution of USSR and to Russian own Oligarchs ; 2.) Natural Resources are the main concern for International Relations involving Russia and the greatest factor that assign it’s position in diplomacy ; 3.) To secure more sources of Natural Resources beyond it’s national borders ; 4.) By controlling the energy sector, Russia has high chance on even surpassing the National Power of the then USSR ; 5.) The emergence of rival countries and Russia’s own inferior management are threats that pose significant dangers to Russia’s future actions.
