The Transnational Role of Foreign Companies in the Upstream Sector of Oil and Gas in Indonesia:An Analysis

Abstract This writing wishes to explain why foreign companies as transnational actors take on more prominent roles than the government in the Oil and Gas sectors. Conveyed from a transnational point of view the writing will contend driving forces from both the government and foreign companies. The contract mechanism implemented since 2001 is argued to be the entry point of foreign companies in Indonesian working areas. However in particular, the provisions within Cost Recovery Mechanism are the field where motives and driving forces are exercised. This leaves the nation with the utmost task to balance domination. To add to this, domination of foreign companies has also lead to a poor competition of domestic companies in extractive industries. Keywords: foreign, companies, Oil, Gas, transnational
