ABSTRACT This study is aimed at stating that indigenous knowledge can be inserted as one of solution alternatives in resolving conflicts on development. This can be looked in Australia case under Prime Minister Julia Gillard. This case is wrapped in a policy called Closing the Gap. This study also certainly elaborates the positive ways and challanges of such policy. The policy covers socioeconomics and politics in such way that it can help lessening discrimination against indigenous people, those are Aborigins and Torres Strait Islander. Uniquely, this study is not only aimed at stating that Closing the Gap policy is not out of reach and has apparently succedeed in many aspects, but also showing how this approach of local wisdom is going with the policy of Closing the Gap. A certain view of local wisdom can be applied to analyse the implementation of Closing the Gap policy in Australia under Julia Gillard, through giving proofs that the policy has succeeded in many good aspects. The proofs can be seen in strategies applied based on local wisdom approach in a way to “closing the gap” with good results in lessening the gap.
