Perbandingan Kebijakan Publik Kota Yogyakarta dan Kota Berlin dalam Membentuk dan Memelihara Identitas Kota Toleran

But the city of Yogyakarta is not the only one that has the identity as the City of Tolerance. The city of Berlin has long been known as the City of Tolerance. However, the identity of the city would not mean anything without the support of public policies from the city’s government. Both cities have their own public policies to support the identity of the city as the City of Tolerance. This difference is caused by the condition and the different needs of their communities. Both have the same problem to manage the plurality of their communities that is divided into two: natives and newcomers. The city of Yogyakarta have to deal with the newcomers dominated by citizens of the country that are derived from other regions, while the City of Berlin have to deal with immigrants. Public policies that were made in order to establish and maintain identity as the City of Tolerance, in fact gives different results between the city of Yogyakarta and the city of Berlin. In the city of Berlin, people are getting more respectful to diversity in their community, while in the city of Yogyakarta there are increasing levels of violence happen between natives and newcomers, or vice-versa.
