ABSTRACT Currently the leadership of Wayang Kekayon Museum has been transitioned to second generation, which of course has big responsibility in making the museum widely known again by the society ;So it is expected that all communication strategies are properly and efficiently carried out by the museum. The problem study is how the communication strategy that undertaken by the Wayang Kekayon museum in introducing the existence of the museum to the public. At this time the public awareness to the historical legacy is poor.The sort of awareness will lead to lack protection and care to the historical legacy. Wayang Kekayon museum is one of the museum that store, take care and maintain thousands of types of puppet collections from all over Indonesia and overseas which are kept in ten unit buildings that consists : Purwa puppet Yogya style , Purwa puppet Surakarta style, Madya and Gedhog puppets, Klithik , Krucul and Beber puppet , Madura , Dupara, Kartasuran, Kidang Kencana puppets, etc. Bali , Suluh Golek Menak, Golek Tengul puppet, etc. Jawa, Tutur, Diponegaran, GolekCepak, Sejati puppets , etc. Various masks , Yogya, Bali & a variety of traditional arts, Contemporary puppets, puppet Thailand, America, India and so on , one century puppet , Royal specialty and others. However the existence of Wayang Kekayon Museum has not yet gotten an attention from the public , so a proper communication strategy is needed to convey the message or information about the Wayang Kekayon museum clearly and effectively .. With a well organized communication activities , it is expected to influence and change people’s view in order to cultivate the will to visit the Wayang Kekayon Museum. To achieve all of those , a proper a communication strategy for Wayang Kekayon Museum is needed, so the intended target audience will be achieved. By pursuing the oriented communications strategy uses appropriate and communicative media effectively so as to speed up the communication with consumer as the target. So far Wayang Kekayon museum applies common ways to communicate with himself to widen thecommunity that is doing advertising through brochures and printing media such as in Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper and Tribun newspaper which are informative or as notice for the reader. However, the absence of specific ways in order to attract the readers and come to visit the museum. The absence of a well planned strategic communication program in Wayang Kekayon museum , can be seen in the routine promotional activities as an information to public.
