Peran Jepang Dalam Pengelolaan Mangrove di Indonesia : Studi Kasus Jica Mangrove Project di Bali

The Deforestation is also cause natural disasters such as floods and sea level rises and it’s dangerous especially for the coastal areas. Indonesia is one among the countries with the largest mangrove ecosystem in the world. In this case, Indonesia see the urgency of the existence of mangrove forests as a key in the mitigation of natural disasters and other benefits such as improving the welfare of coastal communities around the mangrove forest. One of the areas in Indonesia that are vulnerable to natural disasters is Bali. Mangrove forest in Bali is under threat due to excessive logging and getting worse from year to year. The natural resources like forest need to be maintain. It needs contribution from among actors like government, civil society, and multilateral intitutions. To reduce the level of damage, the Government of Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry in Indonesia to cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest, and Fisheries (MAFF) through JICA to manage the mangrove forest. Cooperation of the Ministry of Forestry Hall of Mangrove Forest Management (BPHM) with JICA in mangrove forest management began in 1991-1999. Cooperation was divided into four phases, the first phase (1991-1999) through mangrove rehabilitation in Bali and the second phase (2001-2006) through the development of mangrove information center in Bali. This thesis will foucused on the JICA’s role on mangrove forest conservation in Taman Hutan Raya Ngurah Rai Bali. The result of this project is successful mangrove planting for almost 189 ha degraded lands. The conservation is also bring the other impact for community in Tahura Ngurah Rai and also influence goverments policies. Since mangrove conservation in Tahura, there is a shifting paradigm among community in Tahura. They are more conservative than before and not doing any illegal logging or anything that injure mangrove in Tahura Ngurah R
