ABSTRACT This research discusses public participation in the management of municipal solid waste that is focused on household waste . This research was taken in densely populated urban areas . Cities generally have limited land , causing litter problems are more prevalent in urban areas . Biggest waste producers are groups of households , which is why manufacturers of household waste should manage the waste they generate themselves in an effort to reduce the amount of waste . To discuss how community participation in waste management used three indicators, namely planning , implementation and monitoring . This research is descriptive qualitative . Based on the findings in the field , it can be seen that in the planning stages , through the Society Uniting the community to participate in submitting their desires and their advice in the management of household waste . Local organizations in this case the United Society of cadres through a major driver of community participation in the management of household waste . In the implementation phase , community participation seen from reduction activities and the handling of household waste . People do not participate optimally in household waste reduction activities . However, the waste management activities of households , communities participate actively seen primarily in terms of waste segregation . In the monitoring stage , people do not look actively in overseeing the activities of household waste management . Supervision customarily done by cadres under the auspices of the United Association . Suggestions are recommended from this study is the addition of cadres especially among youth , as well as Small and Medium Enterprises set up to market the compost and handicrafts .
