One form of electronic media which facilitate public demand for information and entertainment is radio. Radio businesses have grown rapidly because of economic growth and increasing public interest. In several major cities in Indonesia, the competition is quite intense. This can be seen from the number of new radio appeared in those cities, starting from small campus radios, to large commercial radios. All of this happened after the amendment of broadcasting law in year 1998. The difference between campus-based community radios with commercial radios lies on the regulations and laws that regulate the rights and obligations and also management of those radios. It is not uncommon for a campus radio to transform itself into a commercial radio when it encounters problems in the management of its radio, either in its personnel or institutional aspect. It is thereby interesting to see what happened to the media management of a campus radio which originally runs by college students but finally turned into a commercial radio. This description study looks at the existence of a Yogyakarta campus radio and its status change into a commercial radio and the significant change in media management (human resource, messaging, finance, and technology) using SWOT (Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analyses. This study shows that the experiences and lesson learned of the staffs who are still working then when the radio was still a campus radio, makes Swaragama Radio a strongly managed radio with a good management strategy.
