ABSTRACT The Research in this undergraduate dissertation described about the use of religion identity and belief as power obtaining sources for a national government which one of the examples is the Hadhari Islamic Policy in Malaysia in the era of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The policy was backgrounded by the power contestation between ruler parties which was represented by Barisan Nasional against opposition party coalition named Pakatan Rakyat. As a leader of Barisan Nasional coalition, United Malay Nation Organisation (UMNO) must compete opposition parties such as Partai al-Islam se-Malaysia (PAS) and Partai Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to get sympathy of Moslem Malayan ethnic. Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi who came from UMNO implemented Hadhari Islamic Policy as his government’s jargon. The writer tried to analyze the factors that made Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi to be motivated for implementing Hadhari Islamic Policy and the effectiveness in achieving the supports from Moslem Malayan ethnic in Malaysia on the national election which held in the ruling era of Abdullah Badawi. This analysis used qualitative research method. The explanation in this undergraduate dissertation elaborated secondary data. The sources of the secondary data were obtained from printed data i.e books, journals, magazines, newspapers and dictations.
