Abstract Russia is one of the country that most threatened by ilicit drug trafficking from its neighboorhood country. The ilicit drug trafficking mainly opium flows into Russia from Afghanistan. Approximately about three percent of Russian population is a drug addict. The situation of drug trafficking in Russia before Medvedev regime is very bad, there isn’t any systemic policy to tackle the drug trafficking issue. A securitization act was urgently needed in Russia to tackle the drug trafficking issue. This thesis will descripting the securitization process that was made during Medvedev’s presidency. This thesis will elaborate the situation in Russia about the drug trafficking issue and how do the government act according to the situation. An important thing is, this thesis will tell us about the response from the audience, this response will determine whether the securitization act was succesful or not.
