Peran Konser Musik The Tibetan Freedom dalam Mendukung Gerakan Global Free Tibet

ABSTRACT The main purpose of this thesis is discussing about how a series of message concerts like The Tibetan Freedom could contribute in a Free Tibet global movement. As we know, Tibet political situation is still the source of conflict between the Chinese government and the entity. Chinese invasion followed by numerous human rights abuses have made the Tibetan feeling like prisoners in their own home. This devastating condition starts to draw attentions from the other side of the world. The Tibetan Independence Movements arise from various countries in different continents as the form of supports to the Tibetan. Among those pro-Tibet groups, there‟s this famous musician of the Beastie Boys named Adam Yauch offering a new way to fight for the freedom of Tibet. With the helping hands of Erin Potts, a young yet driven activists, the support of Milarepa Fund and Students for a Free Tibet, they altogether initiated a giant message concert called „The Tibetan Freedom Concerts‟. The organizers emphasized on „Raising Awareness‟ rather than „Raising Money‟ as their main purpose of helding the concert This thesis shall reveal how significant is The Tibetan Freedom Concerts contribution on the bigger movement called „Free Tibet‟, the ways they draw public‟s sympathies, and their implications to the new social movement trends after the concerts over.
