Abstract Environmental policy in the United States has been developed since the 1960’s and has gone through many phases that create its nowadays orientation, national energy production. The United States went to the attention of energy independence in Bush’s administration and has been rigorous about some aspects in the policy to construct economic reliability trade-related energy production. This thesis will focus on the discussion of renewable fuel and biofuel as the matter of US energy independence and try to find out the political aspects of environmental policy. In order to discover the politization of US environmental policy, this thesis will also study about US domestic political conditions among three main actors: government’s agency, business groups, and environmental groups. Not to forget US bilateral relation with another renewable fuel producer country, Indonesia, this thesis as well encloses the debates that happen about Indonesia’s Crude Palm Oil as an import commodity in the United States to account what’s being the interest of the US environmental policy in trade relation in 2012.
