ABSTRACT The mass media both print and electronic became one of the needs society in obtaining information and entertainment. Print media in the form of a magazine that was appointed by the researchers to be used as research or thesis. Magazine studied were mBangun Tuwuh magazine, a magazine of the indigenous peoples of the palace which raised about Javanese culture, Mangkunegaran Solo. Many magazines are raised about the culture, there has existed since ancient times and there are countless new. But mBangun Tuwuh magazine that has existed since ancient times around 1984 still survive to this time, despite having crashed and woke up in the lead. mBangun Tuwuh magazine as the mass media put its role in the preservation of culture by preaching or informing Javanese culture to the readers. mBangun Tuwuh in preserving Javanese culture puts its position as a provider of cultural information which includes general knowledge, such as history, religion and particularly Javanese art Solo. Apart from being media information provider, the existence mBangun Tuwuh magazine as the mass media has a mission to educate the reader which then face various obstacles on its way. mBangun Tuwuh magazine’s role in preserving the culture under discussion in this research.
