The main purpose of this Paper is to describe the role of Hezbollah as prominent Islamic political movement in the liberation effort of Southern Lebanon from Israeli occupation. Israel began to invade and occupy Southern Lebanon through military operation in 1978 and 1982. Although condemned as illegal by the UN and Lebanese government, Israel insisted on maintaining its military presence in established area named Security Zone. This occupation gives huge burden and creates resentment among local Shiite population that lives majority in the occupation area. Hezbollah began to emerge in 1982 as Shiite resistance movement. One of its main goals is to expunge all Israeli military presence and its surrogate, SLA (South Lebanese Army), from Lebanon. Hezbollah played important role in the liberation of Southern Lebanon through three ways. First, Hezbollah conducts military operation and psychological warfare toward Israeli force and SLA. Second, Hezbollah takes socio-economic approach by initiating various social programs which benefit not only its Shiite constituent but also general Lebanese populace. And the last, Hezbollah decided to participate in Lebanon politics which started in 1992 to strengthen its position and achieve power to influence government policy. The unilateral withdrawal of all Israeli forces from Lebanon in May 2000 marked the successful role which Hezbollah played nearly two decades in the liberation of Southern Lebanon.
