2012 | Skripsi | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalMilitary regime had been estabilshed in Egypt after the coup to the monarchy in 1952. Since then, Egypt has adopted an authoritarian system which placed many senior army officers in bureucracy. The authoritarian system that is adopted in Egypt‟s political system is disguised as civilian system to draw legitimacy from society. This paper analysed the changes in political system that occurred from the Nasser‟s era to Mubarak‟s era. These changes showed that Egypt‟s political system is gradually moved toward democracy. However, this paper argued that the gradual changes toward democracy is not a real change because the Egyptian‟s presidents from Nasser to Mubarak never in a serious manner to bring Egypt toward a democracy system. The changes did happen to draw legitymacy from the society and to interest western countries to invest in Egypt. The gradual changes in press freedom, multiparty system, law, economy and many other fields were not real changes for Egypt‟s society for in the real world those changes did not affect most Egyptian‟s life. Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak made many rules to ensure their power in the government. Those rules allowed the High Court to questioned the presidents but it cannot does so because the presidents has made some other rules that protect them from the law.
