Diplomasi Korea Selatan Menuju Reunifikasi : Keterlibatan Chaebol Dalam Sunshine Policy

Korean Peninsula remains as an international issue since America and Russia divide the peninsula into two different countries. After that, North Korea and South Korea always have a different policy about problems in Korean Peninsula. Unification also always became an important policy in Korean Peninsula since the separation of two Koreas. Sunshine policy is an example of how important unification policy for South Korea government. This unification policy was created by Korean President Kim Dae-Jung as a peace policy to approach North Korea because the isolation policy held by North Korea government. The aim of sunshine policy is to create positive relation and prevent North Korea to implement the provocative policy toward South Korea. Sunshine policy is implemented in many sectors such as; politics, military, economy, social, culture, etc. In the economy sector, Kim Dae-Jung asked chaebol as South Korea conglomerate business to joint the policy. At that time, North Korea had a very big problem in economy sector such as; poverty, unemployment, and starvation. Kim Dae-Jung’s government used chaebol to cooperate with North Korea because chaebol have the ability to resolve economic problems in North Korea. Chaebol also used by the government to persuade North Korea reform the relation with South Korea in peace way. The economic cooperation in sunshine policy becomes the most important thing for South Korea government because the conventional negotiations do not give good result for the problems of unification.
