Angola and China Relations After the Angolan Civil War

In 2012, Angola will celebrate the 10th anniversary of sustained peace after having been devastated by the civil war. Influenced by the post-conflict development and to rebuild its country, Angola opened up its economy to global market by exporting significant number of crude oil to the US, China, European Union countries, etc. Since then Angola has made some impressive achievements in economic growth and political stability. In oil-trade cooperation, China has been becoming one of the biggest partner of Angola. During the decolonization era, China helped Angola for the liberation from Portugal. After the end of the civil war, China helped Angola for reconstruction of infrastructure. Using the concept of foreign policy determinants, this undergraduate thesis will analyze bilateral relations of Angola and China after the Angolan Civil War and to figure out what determinants influence the bilateral relations between them. Natural resources and widely-shared attitude will be discussed and how a pack of cooperation projects, credit lines, and oil trade strenghthen the bilateral relations between Angola and China.
