One of all those aspects was the gender and women empowerment issue. Women had been treated as second class citizen and the conservative government stole their rights by implemented pro-patriarchal policies. Unfortunately that kind of bias gender-policies lasted for some decades. None of the leaders revised them. Many breakthrough ideas finally came from Mohammad Khatami when he made up his way to became one of the candidates of Iranian Presidential Election held in 1997. Although not considered as the strong candidate, Khatami made it clear that his ideas of women empowerment sure be the reason of his winning. His presidential terms and the women empowerment issues could not be separated away. They needed each other and became “political mutualism-symbiotic”.
