Singapore is one of country in Southeast Asia which has the strongest military power compared to other nearby countries, like Indonesia and Malaysia. Singapore has a policy orientation that tend to give priority to increasing military strength, considering that Singapore has a less favorable geopolitical location as a strategic location, as well as event capture the influence by major countries around it. One of the agenda of military cooperation undertaken by Singapore to countries in Southeast Asia is a joint securing of the Malacca Strait. Security is considered to be an important issues in Southeast Asia, given the Strait of Malacca has economic and strategic value, since become one of the important shipping lanes in the international arena. Securing of the Malacca Strait can be viewed from various aspects, namely the needs of biological resources, the interests of the United States is economically and strategically, security from piracy and terrorism, and the inability of military force in the surrounding countries to do security. Securing of the Straits of Malacca in the beginning is the responsibility of neighboring countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, through jointpatrol activities (the Malacca Straits Sea Patrols). However, as one country that has the responsibility for providing security, Singapore tends to include the involvement of the United States as a party that can 'push up' military force to support security in the Malacca Strait. Through the discourse of the United States involvement in securing the Malacca Strait, a joint-patrol agenda developed by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore experienced a variety of debate. By Indonesia and Malaysia’s opinion, Malacca Strait’s security is a security problem areas that can be completed at the regional level without the involvement of foreign parties.
