Peran Community Based Organization (CBO) dalam Pemberdayaan Petani Studi Terhadap IPPHTI (Ikatan Petani Pengendali Hama Terpadu Indonesia) Indramayu

Amid the welfare collapse of Indramayu farmer, IPPHTI Indramayu, a community-based organizations founded by the alumni of Integrated Pest Management Field School (SLPHT), appears. The organization brings about ideal conception to help farmers and agriculture in Indramayu to be advanced. Surprisingly, farmer organizations in Indramayu including IPPHTI Indramayu have weak organizational structure, human resources, and implementation of organizational rule in statutes. These problems delimit their works. To solve the problem, IPPHTI Indramayu, supported by external parties, run a “program” to empower farmers. The direct and indirect empowerment programs consist of four roles, including capacity building, group strengthening, networking strengthening, and distributor (medium) strengthening. The dynamics of the empowerment program was inevitable. Problems are caused by farmers, IPPHTI Indramayu Itself, local government, and the market system. However, empowerment initiated by community organization such as IPPHTI Indramayu have to continue because only farmers may understand and care about the farmer problems.
