The disintegration of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) opened up phenomenal opportunities for China to exercise and influence the ongoing political- economic processes in the Central Asian region. China, being contiguous to the region, has a great opportunity to influence developments in Central Asia. Energy is one of China’s main interests to be achievied in the involvement of China in the Region. What role does the China’s power play in gaining China’s interest in Central Asia? How has China been advancing these interests within the framework of bilateral and multilateral interactions? This thesis attempts to address these questions critically.
