Musik Sebagai Gerakan Nirkekerasan Anti-Perang Studi Kasus: Perbandingan Antara Gerakan Nirkekerasan Anti-Perang pada Masa Perang Vietnam dan Perang Irak di Amerika Serikat

Music is one part of art that never stop growing along with the dynamics of civilization. It sounding in everyday life of people far and wide. Therefore, music has the potency to pass on message of an idea to the population. To such an extent, music could be the media of non-violence protest by mobilizing mass to confront an opponent without physical violence. Condemnation to the United States government as decision maker of Vietnam War in 1954-1975 triggered vast protest rally accross the country. As the result of this, many anti-war orgaizations appears, and also hundreds of protest songs emphasizing this issue released and became hit, and on the top of it, some of musicians that wrote and sing protest songs gathered in one music festival, Woodstock. This music event with its theme,”3 Days of Peace and Music”, believed to have an impact to the boost the anti-war movements at that time. Apart from it, thirty years after the end of Vietnam War, a music event that also concerned to the anti-war movments was held in New York. Speak Up! pointed out the impact of the Iraq War and demanding justice to be applied domestically. Both invited protest songs musician and promoted the push to goverment to end the war. This compositions tries to define how music play role in mobilising people to articulate anti-war ideas. Afterwards, what is the difference similarity between this two concert in their role of mobilising people. Keywords: anti-war movement, social movement, framing, music.
