The concern of this thesis is Workchoices policy that was implemented by Liberal Party’s government in 2006-2007. Liberal Party’s Government had been ruling Australia since 1996 after defeating Labor Party in 1995 election and succeeded to change the previous policy that contained cooperation between government and ACTU to determine IR standards. In the end of its fourth term in ruling Australia, Liberal Party once again changed the policy that made it more liberal than before in 2006, which contained encouragement of individual agreement between employer and employees, and erased trade union’s privilege in IR which was the Labor Party’s basic support. However, implementation of Workchoices couldn’t save Liberal Party from its lost in 2007 election. Therefore, the thesis will attempt to answer questions; Why did Liberal Party’s government change the IR policy again in 2006? What was the impact of Workchoices implementation to Liberal Party’s government? What Liberal Party had done could be explained by neo-liberal theory, which is the party’s ideology. Neo-liberal refers to market’s freedom from government intervention, which let the market taken care by invisible hand to make it more efficient and productive.
