PUBLIC DIPLOMACY INDONESIA DALAM MENYIKAPI TRAVEL WARNING OLEH AUSTRALIA

2011 | Skripsi | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalThe main purpose of the thesis is discussing about the travel warning policy taken by Australian government that places Indonesia in a low level of security. The concern is the step chosen by Indonesian government on dealing with the travel warning policy given to the country. The fact is, Indonesia has been in the very same level of security according to Australian government for almost a decade, yet the country has shown significant improvement on the security as well as the relations built with Australia. Therefore, the thesis will attempt to answer the question: what is the step taken by Indonesian government that causes the increasing number of Australian visits to the country, regardless the travel warning policy in Kevin Rudd’s leadership that has remained the same since John Howard’s era? The thesis is discussing about why the travel warning level by Australia still stands the same for a very long time. What Indonesia has done, and is still doing, can be explained using the concept of public diplomacy. Public diplomacy refers to the attempts of having two-way communication which can be done through several steps, such as diplomats’ official visits, press conference, public dialogue, and image building or nation branding. In short, there will be two focuses in this research. First, explaining the reasons behind the persistence of the policy, and second, arguing the Indonesia’s attempt of coping with the policy as well as its success.
