This thesis discusses about Japan’s new foreign policy direction towards United States. as stated in Democratic Party of Japan’s (DPJ) 2009 manifesto. The unequal relations of the two countries lead DPJ to propose a change within Japan’s way and methods to face United States in two main issues: military and economy. The manifesto also becomes one of the most important factor of DPJ’s first victory at the 2009 general election, as they gained more voters from broader range. This thesis will explain about how DPJ will change the direction of Japan’s foreign policy towards United States, and the main factors of why DPJ need to change it.
