2010 | Skripsi | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalThis thesis discusses about how women achieve their own aspirations in defining peace. Women often regarded merely as victims in conflict because people tend to discriminate them in case of peace activism or any other role in conflict resolution. By using case study in South Africa, this thesis attempts to prove that women actually have their own capabilities and virtuousness in resolving conflict. It has been proved that there were so many gender-based social movements in this country that give their own contribution in overthrowing apartheid regime and resolving conflicts afterwards. These women movements then culminated when they agreed to make one big coalition in order to strengthen their bargaining position: Women‘s National Coalition. Thus, in this writing there are two main problems that are going to be analyzed: What kind of method that these women employed in resolving conflict in South Africa? And how these movements influenced peace-building process in South Africa? By using gender perspective and the concept of social movements, those questions are going to be analyzed. Keywords: South Africa, Women‘s National Coalition, apartheid, peace and conflict resolution
