TRANSFORMASI NATO DALAM MENGHADAPI LINGKUNGAN KEAMANAN BARU

Transformation is a process, not an event. That’s the thing that the writer wants to explore in the case of NATO in the existing new security environment. And the main purpose of this thesis is to explore the transformation, as a significant policy, which NATO conduct to face the new threats that the new security environment brings. At the beginning, NATO had existed as a defensive alliance that would guarantee the security of its members from all the kind of threats that may come from Soviet Union or Warsaw Pact. But, as the fall of Soviet Union occurred in 1989, the security environment got changed and that give much implications on NATO. Knowing now that NATO had responded the new security environment by having transformation on its body which include roles and tasks, then the scientific question of this thesis goes to why the transformation sectors that NATO take become its choice in facing the new security environment. The analysis of it will use the concept of securitization. Securitization in which NATO held in accordance of its transformation would see the process of NATO itself in formulating new strategies and policies of the existing referent objects that could harm NATO’s territory, populations, and forces.
