ABSTRAKSI Trafficking in women is recognized as a modern-day slave trade, although it has a long history in China. These phenomenon, their transportation and sale for labour of any kind, whether within or outside national boundaries is a violation of the human rights of the victims that must be combated, especially because during the past decade, trafficking has become an issue of growing concern in Asia. This proposed exploratory research will help improve our knowledge and understanding trafficking in women situation in China and why law enforcement and policies cant reduce the high number of trafficking in women in China. There were many factors that make China couldn’t restrain this phenomenon. First is Confucianism view of a woman and its implementation on the Chinese society. Second is One Child Policy since 1979 and shortage of a woman as the result. The third factor was social economic situation in China. Although the Chinese government has launched a series of rescue actions, the effort has run into tremendous difficulties due to dilemmas met by the “buyers”, local citizens, grass-roots organizations and the trafficked women. The scale of trafficking is escalating: originally the crime mainly existed in a few provinces but has by far spread to almost every province in China. Besides, large numbers of women are being trafficked into the provinces where women used to be trafficked out. Keywords : China, trafficking in women, sex discrimination, patriarchal values.
