ABSTRACT This study examines the phenomenon of political volunteerism performed by the artists of the FMI community in the presidential election in 2014 in the city of Yogyakarta. Political volunteerism emerged as a unique phenomenon in political participation among the artists. They are present as a new political force in the democratic electoral contestation today. Looking at the phenomenon of political volunteerism presence in the political environment which is full of money politics and transactional politics in Indonesia, this research will focus on two research questions, namely: how are the forms of political volunteerism performed by the FMI artist and what factors are driving the creation of political volunteerism. This study is a qualitative study that uses a case study approach. In this case, the political volunteerism performed by FMI artists is positioned as an integrated unit to be studied. To get the data in this study, it is done by in-depth interviews (depth interview) and aided by tracking information from various secondary sources such as books, journals, articles, websites, news and social media. Findings from this study indicate that the artist in Yogyakarta, especially the FMI artist is elements of society that has long been active in non-conventional political participation in the city of Yogyakarta. Conventional political participation of FMI artists is done through voice support and political campaign to Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla. This is a form of political volunteerism performed by artists FMI. Then, the study also finds that the political volunteerism among the artists of the FMI arise due to several factors derived from social relations internal and external communities. Wherein the internal side, tradition factors of mutual cooperation and mutual respect for the senior be a strong reason affecting the birth of the political volunteerism. Meanwhile, on the external side is known that personality factors and work program that brought by the candidate to attract the passage of political participation based on the values of volunteerism. Thus, in general it can be said that the internal social capital in the community in the form of a tradition of mutual cooperation and respect with seniors, if facing on the image of good candidate through achievement personality and work program will lead to a political participation based on the values of political volunteerism.
