ABSTRACT Editorial cartoon is an anomaly in the world of printed journalism. It is a visual among the words, containing opinions, and deliberately distort reality to bring an element of humor. Nonetheless editorial cartoons can not be considered trivial. Editorial cartoon is a way to criticize and oppose. No wonder that the cartoons can cause an incorrect perception and drag cartoonists and newspaper editors to court. This unique style of editorial cartoon makes it interesting to see how the editorial cartoon in three different national newspapers highlight the same phenomenon, namely the atmosphere of the campaign period of Presidential Election in 2014. During that time, citizens and the media in Indonesia divided into two camps, each supporting a different candidate. Some media even indicated aligned to each presidential candidate. This research try to read the attitude of the media and how they represent the contestation of the 2014 presidential election campaign that bustle through their editorial cartoon section. This study uses visual semiotic analysis that based on the concept of semiotics by Charles Sanders Peirce to examine each mark in editorial cartoons and use intertextuality to interpret signs and data validation. This thesis shows that beyond the humor of editorial cartoon, this column can be used to examine the attitude of each media to the phenomenon of the 2014 Presidential Election by representation on the contestation during the presidential election campaign in 2014 that appeared in editorial cartoo
