Britains Game of Throne: Monarki Inggris di Era Demokratisasi Global

ABSTRACT The American Revolution and French Revolution at the end of 18th century became milestones for anti–monarchist to spread democracy and republicanism against all monarchies over the world as hereditary rights continue to uphold discriminatory practice of power in social life. Today, after two hundred years of struggle leaving only 45 legitimate monarchies from more than 900 in the 19th century, those surviving monarchies keep struggling to reinvent themselves into new roles, function, and rationales for their continued existence in democratic society. One of ancient monarchies succeed on maintain its legitimacy over the people nowadays is British monarchy. As the biggest and most prominent monarchy around the modern world, British monarchy keeps preserving their hereditary rights as legitimate leader and national representation over the British. This research explores British monarchy‟s strategy to maintain and preserve its relevancy in modern democratic society through Britain‟s cultural production fields. It is also found that there is a massive and systematic social construction to control ideological state apparatus using symbolic power in shaping British monarchy as a national identity and natural entity.
