ABSTRACT This study aims to find out the patterns of political communication and the dynamics of power relations in the online political discussions about the establishment of “Provinsi Kepulauan Flores” in the Facebook group “Wacana Pembentukan Provinsi Flores” in the context of tribal society of Flores island, East Nusa Tenggara. This research examines the social media text as an element of social events and processes of meaning-making that have causal effects such as changes in knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and values which are reproduced through the structures of the text and conversation. This study uses qualitative paradigm with a critical approach. In line with the text characteristics of social media as interactive socialcyber text, then the text is analyzed by the transformation of critical discourse analysis method of Teun A. Van Dijk and online conversations analysis. Critical discourse analysis aims to investigate the structure of discourse and social context of the text. Analysis of online conversations dissecting communication patterns and power relations were constructed by an interactive text. This comprehensive analysis on the structure of the socio-technological group and five selected text reveals that: 1) the praxis of political communication through social media by Flores tribal people that related to political issues of PKF formation, dominated by elitist-strategic political communication patterns. The patterns seen in the monologue structure of discourse. A lot of it contains personal revelation and showcase and flaming toward actors and interests of the local political elite. Strategic pattern seen also in the structure of the online conversation where so minimal deliberative element both in speech and dominance over the polarization and the managers of the group-based alliance of elite political and ethnic-territorial found on it. Participatory-communitarian pattern is also visible through the strength of the group to maintain social cohesion in the name of tribal discourse Flores without intragroup ideology critics. Consequently, deliberative pattern is not formed, the nature of the message was changed from a political issue into a political advocacy. Similarly communicators, facilitators became a spokesman and member of the elite pressure groups. 2) The relation of power takes place through domination strategies that include claims representationism and regulationism as well as switching the group manager with the political elite pro PKF formation; while the strategy of resistance through fragmentation and a rival alliance of citizens as well as the eastern part of Flores culturalism Catholic Church behind unwiring or absence of non netizen Flores.
