ABSTRACT Thesis with the title "The Commodification of Agricultural Land (Study of Agricultural Land Conversion On Panggungharjo Sewon Bantul Yogyakarta)" discuss about the social changes that occurred in Panggungharjo Sewon Bantul Yogyakarta. The presence of social changes that occurred in the village on the outskirts of the city experienced an urban agglomeration. The occurrence of these urban agglomerations made agricultural land in the village is experiencing a transition function of agricultural land into non-agricultural buildings such as housing. The transformation of agricultural land has been around from 1990 to 2016. The presence of the agricultural land conversion impact on arable land and the work of farmers in the village Panggungharjo. Formulation of the problem in this research is how the aspects of social changes that occurred in the village of Panggungharjo Sewon Bantul Yogyakarta and how the strategy of farmers and farmer groups respond and adapt themselves to these changes? Method of research done by researcher is a method of qualitative research with descriptive analysis unit which provides an overview of substantive rationality and formal rationality which was based on agricultural activities and describe the manifestation of rationality in response to market conditions that emerges from the penetration of capitalism in agriculture. Data collection techniques are in-depth interviews with rendomly informants. The infroman is representative of the Head of Hamlet, Farmers, groups of farmers And a group of Women Farmers. The results of the field study explain about the the conversion of agricultural land occurs as a result of the social changes that the following aspects: (1) urbanization; (2) changes in the cultural aspect; and (3) changes in the structural aspect.
