ABSTRACT This research is located in Mlangi which is known as “pathok negoro” in Yogyakarta. The term of “pathok negoro” defined as the region which is considered as the center of Islamic civilization in Java. There, kijaji is not only placed as a symbol or a title of honor given to an expert in the Islamic religion, but more than that kijaji is placed as the leader for the general public. “Nazab” or the identity of the offspring of the former kijaji applies there as a main condition for someone to be called as a kijaji.
