Kuasa Hegemoni Wacana Masyarakat Madani(Civil Society) Nurcholish Madjid dan Perubahan Politik di Indonesia

ABSTRACT The production of discourse or knowledge was never apart from sociocultural contexts, but in interaction each other. Discourse is constitutive and constituted, it is dialectical process between discourse and social practices. For that reason, political change can be understood and done by either production or reproduction discourse or knowledge. This thesis has put masyarakat madani (civil society) discourse of Nurcholis Madjid as that analyzed discourse in the Indonesian political change contexts toward Reformasi. By using both Critical Discourse Analyses theory of Norman Fairclough and Hegemony theory by Gramsci which are used explain ideology, two texts about masyarakat madani of Nurcholis Madjid are analyzed. The study that use linguistic analytical approach (text) and non-linguistic (discourse and sociocultural practice) have explain interdiscourse that produced by Nurcholis Madjid by using order of discourse of Orde Baru, post-cold war of West, and Mujtama Madani renowned by Anwar Ibrahim. The interdiscourse have led common sense, particularly of Indonesian Islamic middle class, to assert consensus to meaning of masyarakat madani that co-reference to civil society in the Western world view. That consensus are most important basic in hegemonic power to determine social change that have happened in accordance with neoliberal capitalist class interests which are expand in the third world particularly post-cold war that was won by United States. Nurcholis Madjid, with his production of discourse, has put him as important moral and intellectual leader in war of position of the fall and weakness of state legitimation. This thesis has clearly affirmed the important of knowledge and common sense production to understand and design a political change. That the power and imperialism or the dependency not only in the economic and political aspect, but also in the academic and intellectual, or intellectual imperialism. By this point of view, world view or ideological consciousness becomes very important.
