Sumber dan Proses Terjadinya Eskalasi Konflik di Ukraina Tahun 2014-2015

2016 | Tesis | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalABSTRACT Crimea was actually having an identity crisis since it became a special part of Ukraine’s sovereignty. An issue related to decision of Crimean to stay as Ukraine’s special entity has continued to be salient issue. Whether to make new close relations with the West or keeping its brotherhood relations with Russian Federation, make its society questioning their own political orientation. Decision of Ukrainian president to cancel cooperation plan with European Union raised tension from mass protest to armed conflict conducted by two groups of pro-Ukraine (government and West) and pro-Russia. This conflict escalation was running in considerable period of time. The author is using concept of conflict escalation by Bartos and Wehr to explain about the process of conflict escalation in Ukraine. Conflict escalation consists of unilateral escalation, reciprocated escalation, and hostility-driven escalation. In addition, the author has found three sources that make escalation takes place: change in conflict solidarity, change in conflict resources, and value differences.
