Perubahan Sosial di Kampung Pogung Kidul Yogyakarta

2016 | Tesis | SosiologiABSTRACT This study examines social changes occurring in Kampong Pogung Kidul, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The location of Pogung Kidul is a strategic location in north Yogyakarta which is located between two main roads Kaliurang street and Monjali street and direct border to University of Gadjah Mada in south part of kampong. It causes people in Kampong Pogung Kidul have challenges. Those are developments in Kaliurang and Monjali street and development done by the university. Pogung Kidul becomes main area of changes between development of the city and development of educational institutions in surrounding. In the other side, the location of Pogung Kidul becoming central development in north Yogyakarta causes the people there are to be object of economic and social system exploitation. While in the other hand, location in the border of the University of Gadjah Mada already affects growth and development of kampong, not only because the area in the kampong becomes narrower due to the expansion of the university, but the existence of university around the kampong seems to demand new spaces in Kampong Pogung Kidul to provide various facilities required new students who come from other cities. This research is a descriptive qualitative design. Data was obtained by conducting observation, interview with several informants who have different age and gender, and documentation. This study uses the theory of social change from Harper and theories of social change in a functional perspective as a framework of seeing and explaining the social changes occuring in Kampong Pogung Kidul. The results of this study show that changes and developments in Kampong Pogung Kidul still relate to the development of Yogyakarta city and development of the University of Gadjah Mada. The University of Gadjah Mada triggers the development of north Yogyakarta and influences the development of the surrounding area, in this case Kampong Pogung Kidul has changed in the physical aspects, social, cultural and economic. Social structure changes affect to economic structure of the society hometown, economic development also affect the physical changes in the kampong. The people in Kampong Pogung Kidul originally living with an agrarian and subsistence culture then develop with different economic system which is outside from the agricultural base. This pattern automatically changes subsistence economy pattern. During the development around the kampong, land conversion and non-agricultural jobs changes in the field increases. Most people change function of their house into boarding house, lodging and restaurant. It is not easy for original people in Kampong Pogung Kidul to survive in the kampong changing into city. The rate of development is hard to resist which is in the end, it will lead to the selection of people to survive with modern economics system and seeing everything as a commodity.
