ABSTRACT The amount of economic value generated from the mining sector, made mining sector very dominant compared to other regional economic sectors in West Sumbawa regency. The large benefits of the mining sector on the economy of the West Sumbawa Regency lead dependence on the mining-based economy. But as it is known that the resource types of mines will someday be depleted because they are non-renewable. So that dependence on mining can be a curse in the future if natural resources are being exploited currently not managed properly. Therefore, this study seeks to answer the question of how the West Sumbawa Regency government strategy out of dependence on mining-based economy? To answer the formulation of the above problems, this study uses the theoretical framework of the dutch diseases, this phenomenon is characterized by rising inflation, declining agricultural sector, declining economic growth and increased unemployment, which in turn led to the term resource curse. Another phenomenon is also illustrated with a country rich in natural resources tend to be weak in terms of innovation because depend on natural resources (mining). The government easily benefit from the natural resource tax without having to make productive and innovative activities. So the government has to take steps that spur productivity and competency in the agricultural sector. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach. Data retrieved through interviews and documentation by the West Sumbawa Regency analysis unit. The data collected is then analyzed and interpreted according to the concept used. The results of the data analysis will then be used to describe the two parts, the first describes the economic dependence on the West Sumbawa mine and both describe an exit strategy from such dependence. Thus, at the end of this study conclude that the West Sumbawa Regency government strategy to get out of the mine based economic dependence is to increase revenues outside of the mining sector and by diversifying the economy to make the most of the potential power of local natural resources, namely agriculture and tourism. These two sectors in line with the vision of economic development that is, toward the Agro Industry Mainstay of West Sumbawa Regency. But there are still many weaknesses in economic development in West Sumbawa regency, one of which the support of local budgets are still minimal.
