In relation to the various problems that faced by industry, strategies are needed to solve those problems, such as ease of access to the capital and raw materials, diversification, expansion of business networks, marketing and business partnerships, and increase access to technology. In this case, social capital provides support to productive activities with an emphasis on trust, norm, reciprocity and network that used to solve problems in the domestic industry. This study aims to determine the role of social capital of industry players in the market’s expansion, the use of technology, the provision of capital, the use of raw materials, the labor utilization and the diversification in Kampung Bangsal. A method that is used in this study is qualitative with descriptive approach. The determination of informants is using Snowball Sampling Technique. The techniques used in collecting the data are through observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. The observation is done by following the industrial activity. The in-depth interviews is done by interviewing the industrial players. The documentation is done by taking an audio recording from interview and taking photos during research activity. In addition, the secondary data is taken from Department of Civil Registration and Population and Regional Development Planning Agency of Lahat district. The result of this study shows that social capital has an important role in coal industry development, because the role of social capital industry as a strategy for solving the problems of industries in Kampung Bangsal. In its development, the norms, trust, reciprocity and networks were related to each other which is used to solve an industrial’s problems. In this case, the role of norm makes their industry more focused, measured, organized and control bad behavior which can damage their industry. The role of trust is to encourage and to facilitate the industry players in transaction cooperation. The role of social networks where the kinship networks are aims to ease in getting information and expanding partnerships. The role of reciprocity is to maintain a cooperative relationship through not damaging to both industrial players and to exchange the kindness among industrial players.
