Strategi Survival Industri Kecil Gerabah Kasongan Kabupaten Bantul Pasca ACFTA

However, ACFTA also becomes obstacles in small unit industry development in Indonesia. Kasongan is also threatened by the competition of similar products. It is a challenge for earthenware crafters in Kasongan to preserve or enhance their existence. To face the impact of ACFTA towards earthenware industry, crafters need to set strategies in order to preserve and enhance their existence. The objective of this research is to describe the impacts of ACFTA towards Kasongan’s small earthenware industry and to describe the strategies of survival of small earthenware industry in Kasongan, Bantul in order to face ACFTA. The research used qualitative method emphasized on descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using direct observation, in-depth interview and documentation. The data were gathered from analytical unit, informants and supportive archives and documents. There are no impacts of the application of ACFTA policy on capital. Business owning crafters and independent crafters used their own capital. On the other side, the application of ACFTA policy possesses impacts on employees in form of reduction in employees, difficulty in looking for employees and the decreasing employees’ performance. In marketing, the impacts of the application of ACFTA policy are complexity in exporting, unsupportive government, price war among crafters, emergence of local competition, and the emergence of new models which makes it difficult to market earthenware. Survival strategy of Kasongan earthenware crafters in dealing with capital is capital management, keeping the quality of the products, saving the sales from the order, adding capital from their own fund and using bank’s service for the other small part. While survival strategy of Kasongan earthenware crafters in dealing with employees is to involve crafters in activities such as dinner or gathering, set deadline, give trainings, provide bonus, design competition, add up employees, develop earthenware model with the right composition, natural coloring, mixing and painting. In dealing with marketing, Kasongan earthenware crafters use showroom renovation, internet marketing, not participating in exhibition to prevent model imitation, use showroom and exhibition only, set price standardization and shift marketing to other places.
