Most conflicts in Southeast Asia are territorial conflicts. These conflicts are difficult to resolve because they’re related to the sovereignty of a country. Conflicted international relations in this region lead to traditional security issues which must be considered. A unique anomaly happens in Southeast Asia which has various border conflicts and high political security tension, but no war among bordering countries. The research result in this study showed that the security anomaly is due to the political involvement of external countries in Southeast Asia region (intrusive system). Countries which use the intrusive system are United States, China, and Australia. The involvement of these countries is performed through multilateral and bilateral regulations, military intervention, and economic and trade investments. The regulations have significant impacts on the levels of power, cohesion, and structure of relationship, thus causing balance of power and deterrence in the region, eventually creating positive impact (stability). Keywords: Southeast Asia, conflict, intrusive system, balance of power, security.
