2016 | Tesis | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalABSTRACT This thesis examines the double standards of US the foreign policy with regard to the 2013 Egyptian coup, given that the US intervention in the Middle East region is very dominant. Attention and response of the US is different in the case of coup in Egypt as the US does not seem to makethis phenomenon a priority even though it has led to the violation of human rights and democracy. The response shown by the US is very different compared to the US intervention against Iraq and Libya which named the US as the defender of human rights and democracy in the region. The purpose of this thesis is to find out why the US applies double standards in its foreign policy with regard to the Egyptian coup. The data is collected by literature method (library research), processed using event sequence analysis method. Overall the data will be correlated with the foreign political theory of rational actor models that can explain the reason for the US to choose double standard in the 2013 Egyptian coupbased on the selection and cost-benefit considerations on the measures taken. The results of this study shows that the double standards approach shown by the US to Egypt coup is influenced by the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) as a political Islam that may interfere with the stability and US interests in the Middle East. Several options and consequences are considered by the US in response to the case, including dismissal of violations of democracy and human rights even though it is contrary to the foundations and principles of US foreign policy. Another indication that support double standards is the response of US allies in the Middle East, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that consider MB as a threat to the stability and the Middle East region. Keywords: US Double Standards, US Foreign Policy, Coup Egypt, Political Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood.
