2016 | Tesis | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT This study aimed to describe the analysis of the discourse about human rights violations in the documentary film, The Look of Silence (2014), which revealed the existence of acts of genocide, impunity and reconciliation needs. This study uses the method of critical discourse analysis Norman Fairclough about the discourse of social change and visual discourse analysis methods Gillian Rose. The findings indicate that discource in the visual and verbal text tend to direct viewers to believe the truth that the communists are the victims of human rights violations in various ways, that are not objective and precisely provocative. For example, by presenting a lot of shots that shown the opposing tensions between the two parties and provide information that is unbalanced and incomplete, bring into conflict and tends to be propaganda. At the level of discourse practice analysis also shown power relations such as political interest that attempts against the dominant discourse established by the government of the New Order and is intended also for the present government. In sociocultural analysis found the existence of social change where people, institutions and organizations along with governments to be more attentive, give more feedback and action on the issue of human rights violations in the eradication of Indonesian communist in 1965 following the The Look of Silence were screened on a massive scale in various areas.
