Abstract This study explores the persistence of traditional community (adat) power regime in Amparita, especially the ability of traditional community in doing selfgoverning through a process of transformation and reproduction of symbolic power in a climate of social and political dynamic. This research is conducted in the indigenous community of Towani Tolotang in Amparita, administratively it is belonging Sidrap region, south Sulawesi province. The Towani Tolotang is one of the traditional community in Bugis society which still survives today, especially after the political change in Indonesia. In this regard, traditional community becomes a new political force that is closely associated with the struggle politics of recognition. There are two formulation of the problem in this study: first, tracking of local indigenous resources (capitals) as traditional power base; second, explaining the indigenous strategies to maintain and to reproduce the symbolic power through the resources it has.
