Disiplin Tubuh dalam Perebutan Identitas Budaya : Perjalanan Kebudayaan Jember Fashion Carnaval dan Ojung di Kabupaten Jember

Abstract Jember is regency administrative territory that has been emerged since colonial era. However, when it comes to the point of determining its meaning as cultural territory, it has not been clear until the appearance of Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC). In the condition where the shaping of perceptually cultural identity has become major, it has three discourses in effort to find and determine Jember as cultural territory, such as traditionalism, metropolism, and regencial government. These three discourses are present in different detail in order to determine the shape of its perceptual culture through disciplinary of body of artist but not within their ideological root that certainly believed the existence dualism of social structure. Then culminated with the nationally official acknowledgement that it was a process to build a carnival city which involved the entire of Jember society and it’s economic region development. Within the finding of Jember cultural identity, the problem of whole citizen involvement in city celebration has not been of representing the characteristic difference of culture in which the subject may not be determined by the three discourses, which now appear as the elit culture of Jember. The difference which is not part of those three discourses can be found in the art of Ojung in Jember. Ojung’s position is not only without having complete articulation about itself as the reflection one of cultural aspect in Jember, however it challenges the determination of ethnicity meaning as the argumentative basis of traditionalist, as well as the shape of organizing cultural ever done by metropolist intellectuals and regency government. By then, cultural identity shaping in Jember is still determined by its cultural elite, so that the scope of it representation does not succeed in involving and identifying the existence of certain art form in which basically it has become fundamental of the variety of Jember society and its cultural richness.
